Walk round the loop of the River Eden in Appleby, perfect for bird and squirrel spotting. Start at Appleby Tourist Information Centre, which has the trail leaflet.

 

Kirkby Stephen

Follow the Kirkby Stephen Town Trail (available from the Upper Eden Visitor Centre).

An Old Ale Trail explores Kirkby Stephen's Conservation Area with 'A step back in time with pubs, inns and breweries of the 18th to 21st century.  There's a total of 29 historical buildings and it includes Blue Plaques (Upper Eden Discovery Guide Number 3). 

A new publication is the 'The Lynchets around Kirkby Stephen'.  This is a 4 mileKirkby Stephen leaflet covers circular walk to Wharton taking in the medieval landscape.

In Autumn, try 'Leaf Peepers' - a Canadian idea where you go looking for autumn colour.  There is the Kirkby Stephen Beech Trees (Upper Eden Discovery Guide Number 4), where you can wander the streets and lanes of Kirkby Stephen to see the ancient beach trees.
