Penrith Tourist Information Centre

Penrith is a market town rich in history, with Penrith TIC housed alongside the Penrith and Eden Penrith TICMuseum in the Old Robinson's School building dating back to 1670.

Our friendly and knowledgeable team are here to help you make the most of your visit and can provide you with all you need to know about where to stay, where to eat, plus things to do and how to get here.

Opening times:

We are sorry to say that due to the new national restrictions from the government, Penrith TIC will be temporarily closing its doors on Monday 2 November at 4pm until further notice.  The TIC Team will still be available to be contacted via email pen.tic@eden.gov.uk or telephone 01768 867466 (Monday to Friday 10am - 4pm.)

Reserve and Collect Service: Cards for Good Causes Charity Christmas Cards

A Reserve and Collect Service is available at Cards for Good Causes logoPenrith TIC for the Cards for Good Causes Charity Christmas Cards.  Cards for Good Causes supports more than 250 UK national and local charities with at least 70p in every pound spent going to charity.

Penrith - A Historical Record in Photographs

Copies of Penrith – A Historical Record in Photographs published by Penrith and Eden Museum are now available for purchase at the special price of £8.  The book is illustrated in colour and black and white (hard back, 159 pages).  Books can be purchased using the same reserve and collect service.

Mail order is also available for £4.50 p&p per book.

Main Services

Quality Assured Accommodation and Booking: We are able to make bookings for Quality Assured accommodation on your behalf (10% booking deposit based on full stay applies.) So if time is short, or you have a particular requirement why not let us do the hard work for you?  We also offer the National Book a Bed Ahead (BABA) service.

Comprehensive local, regional and national Information Service: We stock a range of guides, leaflets and information on Eden, including local town guides and leaflets, walking and cycling leaflets, local bus/train timetables, maps and event and attraction information. We also have information on other areas of Cumbria, The Lake District, Hadrian's Wall and other UK holiday destinations.

OS Explorer and Landranger maps: We sell a large range of maps and are stockists of OS Explorer and Landranger covering the whole of the UK.

Event Tickets:

We sell a wide variety of local event tickets including tickets for the Theatre by the Lake, Keswick, Penrith Singers concerts and Penrith Players productions.

Penrith Players update: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic Penrith Player's theatre committee have agreed to cancel the rest of the season, they hope to open again to the public in 2021. If you have bought tickets on line, Ticketsource will refund them. If you have bought them through the Tourist Information Centre please contact them about a refund. 

What else does the TIC have to offer?

A Year in Penrith 2021 Calendar is now on sale in the TIC. With photos of Penrith and surrounding area by Lee Benson Photography, the calendars are £10 A Year in Penrith Calendarwith all profits from the sale of the calendars will go to the Christmas lights.

Wide range of guides, books and DVDs: A wide selection of local guides, DVD's and books are on sale in the TIC. Including The Ullswater Way Official Guide book by Mark Richards is on sale at £4.99 with £1 going to the Lake District National Park to help keep the Ullswater Way in good repair. 

The TIC stocks a range of gifts and souvenirs: Including Mugs, Tea Towels, Lake District Calendars and Romneys Kendal Mint Cake - as taken to the Summit of Everest in 1953!  An exciting range of mugs, coasters, placemats and greetings cards featuring local landmarks including Penrith Castle, the Beacon and the Musgrave Monument are on sale.  Mail Order available subject to postage and packing charges.

National Theatre Tokens: Official agents for National Theatre Tokens - the perfect gift, whatever the occasion!

National Express Ticket Agency: We sell tickets to hundreds of exciting destinations served by National Express. National Express have a number coach services that stop at Penrith, allowing easy travel to other parts of the UK and into Europe. Travelling to London? Two coach services run to the capital every 24 hours.

Secure Cycle Storage Lockers: Available for cyclists to store their bikes whilst visiting the town.  Lockers cost £1.50 for up to 3 hours hire and £3 for up to 24 hours hire.  To hire please contact the TIC.  Alternative locker facilities are available in Penrith at Penrith Leisure Centre.

Other services

We supply Disability Rights UK National Key Scheme Keys (keys for accessible toilets). This national system offers independent access to disabled people to around 9,000 locked public toilets around the country. Disabled toilets are available in Bluebell Lane, Castle Park and Sandgate.

A useful town map with further information on Car and Coach Parking in Penrith is available, plus more details of the disc parking scheme which operates in the town. Parking discs are available from the TIC and local shops and cafes in the town.
