The park is set out with rose gardens, flower beds and mature trees and has a playground and large grassy areas for energetic youngsters. Refreshments are available during the summer.

The Coronation Garden near the Town Hall, was created as a community garden in 1938, to celebrate King George VI's Coronation. Recently, the gardens have evolved to create a sensory garden, a series of interpretation panels and sculptures developed around a historical timeline.
