Robert Macfarlane's bestseller - now a cinematic voyage beneath the surface of the earth.
From the fine roots beneath an ancient ash tree, modern-day underground explorers descend into worlds rarely seen: sacred cave systems, submerged tunnels, thawing glaciers, water-filled burial sites and a vast laboratory hidden deep below the Earth, built to probe the secrets of the cosmos.
Underland invites audiences beneath the surface, moving through landscapes shaped by deep time — from the Mendip Hills and the Catacombs of Paris to the Karst Plateau, a glacier’s moulin, and the depths of experimental science. These concealed spaces become places of memory, loss and revelation, offering a powerful perspective on humanity’s relationship with the planet in the Anthropocene.
Narrated by Oscar-nominated actor Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall) and told with a distinctly lyrical voice, the film is an immersive descent that ultimately asks how we might live differently within the fragile world above.
