Description

Dawdles walks should take about an hour unless otherwise stated, 2.5/3 miles - Where there is a car share, allow for extra time to reach destinations and return.

We usually find optional refreshments to continue our social gatherings. Everyone welcome, suggested donation £1 per walk towards expenses.

We will substitute the walk leader if not available, back marker added on the day as needed. We carry Public Liability Insurance.

Legstretchers, allow for a morning out – usually first Friday once a month - Timings are done by two people and it always takes a bit longer with a group. We will find a café at the end where possible but suggest bringing a drink and snack. Please dress appropriately for the time of year and be prepared for rain at any time. Suitable footwear is necessary for these walks.

Thursday 5th March - Dawdles Walk Kirkbank and Slack Gap Lanes
Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am. Heading north out of town we pick up Kirkbank and then Slack Gap Lanes towards Hartley, returning via Hartley Road. Optional refreshments in the town.

Thursday 6th March - Legstretcher walk Fox Tower and Mount Ida, Brough
Meet at Christian Head car park for car share. 6.5km/4miles, 320m/1049ft, 2.5hrs. Walking from Helbeck Quarry across to the iconic Fox Tower and up to Mount Ida overlooking Brough and the Eden Valley.

Thursday 12th March - Dawdles Walk Wharton circular
Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am for car share Stenkrith 1 mile. This charming walk to Nateby and then over the river to Wharton returning via Jubilee Park and Upper Stenkrith. Optional refreshments back in Kirkby Stephen.

Thursday 19th March - Dawdles Walk Hartley Lane and Swingy Bridge
Meet at the Cloisters 10:30am. From Frank’s Bridge we will pick up the river path and Hartley Lane to Swingy Bridge, returning to Kirkby Stephen via Bollam Lane. Optional refreshments in town after our walk.

Thursday 26th March - Dawdles Walk Sandwath circular and Owen’s Farm
Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am. There are three routes to Sandwath along medieval lanes from Kirkby Stephen so we will choose the most suitable under foot for a walk on the day. With refreshment stop half-way at Owen’s Farm.

Thursday 2nd April - Dawdles Walk Smardale Nature Reserve
Meet at The Cloisters for car share 2.6 miles. Celebrating Easter with an early trip to this reserve to see some signs of spring. Optional refreshments back in Kirkby Stephen.

Friday 3rd April - Legstretcher Swindale Valley
Meet at Christian Head car park 09.30 for car share 22 miles. A treat to visit this hidden valley in spring. 7.4km/4.6miles, 90m/300ft, 2.5 hrs.

Thursday 9th April - Dawdles Walk Greenriggs circular
Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am. A walk to the west of the town taking in the route of our family adventure route. Optional refreshments back in Kirkby Stephen.

Thursday 16th April - Dawdles Walk Church and Market Brough circular
Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am for car share 4.1 miles. Off to Brough with a special treat at the Brough Castle Ice Cream Parlour after our walk.

Thursday 23rd April - Dawdles Walk Hartley Village circular
Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am. One of our favourite little walks to the pretty village of Hartley. Optional refreshments in Kirkby Stephen.

Thursday 30th April - Dawdles Walk Ravenstonedale
Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am for car share 4.8 miles. There are lots of options for a walk around Ravenstonedale, whatever the weather so we’ll choose on the day. May be suitable for disabled buggies. Optional refreshments in Ravenstonedale.
