The Cross Fell Race for GNAAS
The 2026 Cross Fell Race on Sunday 5th July is the 6th running of this FRA race, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Description
Race starts 11am, the eminently runnable route of 24Km with 680m of climb is a lasso taking in the summit of Cross Fell (the highest Pennine peak) and the source of the Tees, with stunning 360 degree views over the spine of England above Eden Valley with the Lake District and Scotland beyond. Race HQ and registration from 9am-10.45 is at the village hall in scenic Garrigill, which also boasts pub (reopening soon), post office/shop, B&B, garage (no fuel) and public toilets. Entry on the day allowed (£2 extra).
The fell race is run by local volunteers, all entry fees going to 2 local charities the Langwathby Air Ambulance (GNAAS) and Garrigill Village Hall.
The race route using the Pennine Way and bridle path is fully marshalled and run under FRA rules with runners to carry full body cover (taped seams), hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle.
Refreshments will be provided free to all runners post-race. Non-runners will be able to purchase refreshments with funds going to the designated charities.
Prizes will be given at 2.30pm or sooner to winners of each age category and teams of 3 runners for both men and women.
Parking as directed by marshals, strictly not on village green or blocking resident’s driveways.
Changing facilities, shower and toilets are available in the village hall.
Sorry no dogs; minimum age for entry is 18 years old on the day of the race.
Cut off time of 12noon will be strictly applied to reaching the 2nd check point; this will also double as the bad weather return point in the case of a severe weather event.
