Description
Juliet Fossey is a local poet and artist based near Penrith. Her latest work, 'In Search of the Missing' is inspired by the doomed Franklin Expedition of 1845. The book combines poems and sketches and is the culmination of three years research and production.
Fossey's interest in the in the Franklin Expedition was peaked after watching the T.V. series 'The Terror', directed by Ridley Scott. Her book focusses on the objects left behind by the expedition crews. These objects are known as The Franklin Relics.
The poems and sketches work in close dialogue throughout the book. Using forensic observation of each object, Fossey explores the fate of the men via the impact of the Arctic environment upon their most personal possessions.
Juliet will be reading from ‘In Search of the Missing’ at The Old Courthouse, Shap on Saturday 24th January, 2pm to 3.30pm with images relating to her work as a backdrop.
