Thursday 3 September, Dawdles Walk Orton Scar
Meet The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen for car share 12 miles.  A new walk for the group, special for September 1.78m/2,87 km, 1125ft/343m.  Allow extra time to reach the destination and this walk.  Optional refreshments at Orton Scar Café.

Friday 4 September, Legstretcher Winder from Sedbergh
Meet Christian Head car park 9:30am for car share 14 miles.  5 miles/8 km, 1200ft/400m ascent.

 

Thursday 10 September, Dawdles Walk Augill Pasture
Meet the Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am for car share 5.5m.  Hoping to see an autumn purple haze of Scabious over this small nature reserve.  Optional refreshments at Brough Castle Ice Cream Parlour.

 

Saturday 12 September, Heritage Open Days walk: Kirkby Stephen Old Ale Trail
Meet at the Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 2pm. Step back in time for this gentle stroll around the Conservation Area exploring pub, inns and breweries of the 18th to 20th century. Lots of stopping, allow 1.5 hours.  Please book waw@uppereden.org.uk

 

Thursday 17 September, Westmorland and Furness Way celebration
Church Brough to Kirkby Stephen 4.5 miles.  Meet at the Village Green Church Brough 10:30am. This walk is to celebrate the launch of the Westmorland and Furness Way and uses the Pennine Journey.  The walk has been timed to allow the use of the 9:49am 563 bus from Kirkby Stephen.

 

Thursday 17 September, Heritage Open Days Walk: Viaduct Walk circular, past, present and future
Meet at the Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am. Celebrating ‘Everyday Histories’, this is a circular walk from Kirkby Stephen joining the Viaduct Walk at Stenkrith to Hartley where we will include the Stainmore railway history and Northern Viaducts’ plans for the future. Thursday 24 September, Dawdles Walk Ravenstonedale circular
Meet at the Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen for car share 4.9 miles.  A circular walk of Ravenstonedale village suitable for the weather on the day. Optional refreshments at Scar Gallery including the latest art exhibition.

 

Thursday 1 October, Dawdles Walk Poetry Path
Meet at The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am.  A walk around the Kirkby Stephen Poetry Path to celebrate their recent cleaning.  Allow 1.5 hours to include reading the poems.  Optional refreshments back in the town.

 

Friday 2 September, Legstretcher Stennerskeugh Clouds
Meet at Christian Head car park 9:30am for car share 5.8 miles.  Stennerskeugh clouds walk 6 km/3.7 miles, 175m/575 ft. 1hour 40 mins.

 

Thursday 8 October, Dawdles Walk Greenriggs Adventure Walk
Meet at The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am.  Taking the route of our family adventure walk to the west of town to Greenriggs and returning via Croglam Lane. Optional refreshments in town.

 

Thursday 15 October, Dawdles Walk Sandwath circular
Meet at the Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am. Following green medieval lanes to Sandwath and refreshments at Owen’s Farm Shop and Café.  Returning via Stobars and Bloody Bones Lanes.

 

Thursday 22 October, Dawdles Walk Tailbrigg, Nateby
Meet at The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am for car pare 2.3 miles.  Without any strenuous climbing, we will have a circular walk at Tailbrigg with spectacular walks over the Eden Valley. An alternative walk will be substituted if the weather is not suitable.  Optional refreshments at The Black Bull, Nateby. 

 

Thursday 29 October, Dawdles Walk Halloween special if you dare
Meet at The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am.  We will explore the Horrible History stories of Kirkby Stephen for this short walk around the Conservation Area.  Costume, garlic and bats optional.  Refreshments in town.

 

Whether sunshine or snow, please always come prepared. Suitable footwear is necessary for these walks.

Dawdles walks should take about an hour unless otherwise stated, 2.5/3 miles - Where there is a car share, allow for extra time to reach destinations and return. Everyone welcome, health questionnaire required, suggested donation £1 per walk towards expenses. We usually find optional refreshments to continue our social gatherings. We will substitute the walk leader if not available, back marker added on the day as needed. We carry Public Liability Insurance.
Legstretchers, allow for a morning out – usually first Friday once a month - Timings are done by two people and it always takes a bit longer with a group.
