Friday 1st May - Legstretcher Walk, High Helbeck
Meet at Christian Head car park 9:30am for car share Helbeck Quarry, Brough 5.4 miles. 6.18 km/3.84m 180m/590 ft 2.13 hours.
Thursday 7th May - Dawdles Walk, John Strutt Foundation’s Lakes Field Walk Winton
Meet at The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am. This walk is weather dependant because the route tends to flood after heavy rain, we will choose an alternative walk if necessary. Delightful Nature Researve with lakes and wild foul plus splendid views over Hartley Fell. Optional refreshments back in Kirkby Stephen.
Friday 8th May - Loki Festival Walk, Wharton Circular
Meet at The Cloisters 10am booking required.This walk will explore our medieval farming landscape including Norse place names. Heading out to Nateby and then over the river to Wharton returning via Jubilee Park and Upper Stenkrith. Booking waw@uppereden.org.uk
Thursday 14th May - Dawdles Walk, Greenriggs with variation
Meet at the Cloisters 10:30am.Andy will have a few surprises along the way with his variation of the Greenriggs walk to the south west of the town. Optional refreshments back in Kirkby Stephen.
Thursday 21st May - Dawdles Walk, Tailbrigg in search of seasonal wading birds
Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am for car share 2.5 miles. Looking and listening for Curlew, Lapwing and, Oyster Catcher visitors. Dogs strictly on leads. Weather dependant. Optional refreshments in Nateby.
Thursday 28th May - Dawdles Walk, High Stenkrith and Jubilee Park
Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am. We don’t often visit High Stenkrith and the cascading River Eden before visiting the haymeadow at Jubilee Park on our return. Slightly longer walk.Optional refreshments in Kirkby Stephen.
Thursday 4th June - Dawdles Walk, Waitby Greenriggs and Owen’s Farm
Meet at The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am for car share Owen’s Farm 1 mile.We will park at Owen’s Farm, Waitby before walking to Waitby Greenriggs Nature Reserve for our seasonal orchid hunt. Optional refreshments back at Owen’s Farm.
Friday 5th June - Dawdles Walk, Greenriggs circular. Legstretcher Walk Ewbank Scar and Nateby
Meet at Christian Head car park 9:30am.Ewbank Scar, Ladthwaite, Lockthwaite and Nateby, 9.6km/6miles, 320m/1049ft, 2.5 hours - The path through Ewbank Scar was damaged by storm Desmond and has not been repaired. Care is necessary. This is our most strenuous walk.
Thursday 11th June - Dawdles Walk, Swingy Bridge and Bollam Lane
Meet at The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am. An easy local walk this week over Frank’s Bridge, Podgill woods, medieval Hartley Lane, Swingy Bridge that no longer swings and returning via Bollam Lane. Optional Refreshments in Kirkby Stephen.
Thursday 18th June - Dawdles Walk Piper Hole Goat Farm
Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am for car share 5.5 miles. Return visit for a guided tour of Coronation Haymeadows and Piper Hole Goat Farm with lunch £5. Please book waw@uppereden.org.uk or at Dawdles Walks.
Thursday 25th June - Dawdles Walk, Augill Pasture Nature Reserve
Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am for car share 5.5 miles. Visiting the haymeadow and wild orchids at Augill Pasture plus the restored Lead Smelting Works. Optional refreshments on the way back at Brough Ice Cream Parlour.
Dawdles walks should take about an hour unless otherwise stated, 2.5/3 miles - Where there is a car share, allow for extra time to reach destinations and return.
We usually find optional refreshments to continue our social gatherings. Everyone welcome, suggested donation £1 per walk towards expenses.
We will substitute the walk leader if not available, back marker added on the day as needed. We carry Public Liability Insurance.
Legstretchers, allow for a morning out – usually first Friday once a month - Timings are done by two people and it always takes a bit longer with a group. We will find a café at the end where possible but suggest bringing a drink and snack. Please dress appropriately for the time of year and be prepared for rain at any time. Suitable footwear is necessary for these walks.
