A traditional, informal gathering of Gypsies and Travellers - lively atmosphere with plenty to see - horses being washed in river, raced down street, stalls etc.

Appleby Horse Fair takes place on the first week in June from Thursday to the following Wednesday, but it is essentially a weekend event with the main days being Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The dates for the 2026 Appleby Horse Fair are: Thursday 4 June to Wednesday 10 June, with the main days being Thursday 4, Friday 5, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June 2026.

Note - if you plan to visit after Sunday 7 June you may be disappointed as there will be very little to see.

Appleby Horse Fair is unique in Europe and, as well as attracting around 10,000 Gypsies and Travellers, over 30,000 other visitors attend the Fair, with Sunday being the traditional main visitors’ day.

Please note: The fair is not an organised event and visitors attend at their own risk.
