Description

Spectators welcome - help us celebrate and keep the tradition alive.

A centuries old tradition, before churches had stone floors the floors were covered with rushes.  Each summer the old rushes would be removed and replaced with new.  The village children would carry the rushes through the village, which would then be laid as the new floor covering.

Today the tradition carries on in very few villages in England.  We honour the tradition by parading crosses made from rushes, and crowns made from with flowers through the village, which are then displayed in the Church until the following year.

School children procession begins at 2pm from the Chamley Arms and continues through the village to Eden Gate, turns around and head back towards St. Columba's Church.

Church service begins at 3.15pm.
