Thursday 3rd  July - Dawdles Walk Greenriggs
Meet The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am.  A circular walk taking in Bloody Bones Lane and Tarn Lane across fields to Greenrike Farm, returning via Croglam Lane. Optional refreshments back at Church Gallery.

Friday 4 July - Legstretcher Walk Wet Sleddale
Meet Christian Head Car Park, Kirkby Stephen 9:30am for car share 19 miles.  Allow for a morning out 4.35miles/7km, height 560ft/170m.  Please wear suitable footwear for wet and uneven surfaces and clothes appropriate to the Cumbria weather.  A drink and snack is useful as we don’t always end near a café or pub for refreshments.

Thursday 10 July - Dawdles Walk with car share Crosby Garrett
Meet The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am for car share 4.4 miles.  One of our regular walkers will lead us around this historical village.

Thursday 17 July - Dawdles Walk Tebay                
Meet at The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am for car share 12 miles.  A little further afield for this new walk from Hazel.               

Thursday 24 July - Dawdles Walk Swingy Bridge
Meet The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am.  A leisurely stroll over Frank’s Bridge and through Podgill woods, perhaps some forest bathing or tree hugging as you desire.  Pick up Bollam Lane over Swingy Bridge and back to town for optional refreshments at Church Gallery.     
         
Saturday 26 July - Westmorland Dales Festival longer walk Wild Boar circular
Meet Pendragon Castle, Mallerstang 9.30am. Shoregill, Thrang Bridge, Hazelgill, High Dophinsty and Wild Boar summit.  Return to High Dophinsty, Little Fell, Moor Pot (hole), Tommy Road and Pendragon Castle. About 9 miles with 1,800 feet of ascent.  The route will be amended in the event of poor weather.

Saturday 26 July - Westmorland Dales Festival Lynchets historical landscape
Meet at The Cloisters 10am.  To coincide with the launch of our new walk booklet discover these ancient field systems on a circular route to Nateby and Wharton returning via Jubilee Park, Millennium Bridge and Stenkrith Park looking at our historical landscape. Sunday 27 July - Westmorland Dales Festival Kirkby Stephen Commercial and Industrial Heritage
Meet at our stall on Church Green 11am or 14:30pm.  Before the railways arrived, bringing the industrial revolution to Kirkby Stephen, the town was mainly self-sufficient and together with other local towns produced the population's everyday needs.  Come and explore this industrial past, a little walking around the town with some standing. Thursday 31 July - Dawdles Walk Warcop
Meet at The Cloisters 10:30am for car share 6/7 miles.  One of our regular walkers will lead us around her village on this new walk.  We are looking for local refreshments.

Friday 1 August - Legstretcher Walk Orton Circular

Thursday 7 August - Dawdles Walk Smardale Nature Reserve
Meet The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am for car share 3.6/4.2 miles.  Every year we hope for a sunny day to count butterflies towards the national butterfly Count. How many Scotch Argus will we find?  Optional refreshments back in Kirkby Stephen.

Thursday 14 August - Dawdles Walk Lakes Field Walk
Meet at The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am.  In Hartley is the entrance to this John Strutt Conservation Foundation Lakes Field Walk on a new devised path to take in their lakes and wildlife.  Will we see deer or parrots? Optional refreshments back at Church Gallery.

Thursday 21 August - Dawdles Walk Owen’s Farm circular
Meet at The Cloisters, Kirkby Stephen 10:30am.  Our now customary walk to Owen’s Farm for some great homemade refreshments. Middlesike and Greensike medieval grass lanes to Sandwath and back via Stobars and Bloody Bones Lanes.

23/24/25 August - S&DR200 Gala special walks

Meet at Kirkby Stephen East station 12:45pm.  To celebrate the Stockton and Darlington Railway 200 year celebration we will be leading a walk each day along a local stretch of the disused railway. Out of the station along the old junction goods yard and Engine Shed and under where the railway bridge carried the railway over the River Eden.  Passing the spectacular waterfalls over Millennium Bridge and follow the disused railway to Hartley.  We will go under railway bridges and over two spectacular viaducts.  There are also exhibitions in two platelayers huts.  You may return by bus at 14:00, retrace your steps or walk a circular route. 

Thursday 28 August - Dawdles Walk Street, Ravenstonedale
Meet at The Cloisters 10:30 for car share 5 miles.  A stroll around Cote Moor and Street in the footsteps of the Romans.  We will seek optional refreshments at The Fat Lamb where you can marvel at their motor vehicle memorabilia.

 

September 2025 - Look out for Heritage Open Days walks.

Dawdles walks should take about an hour unless otherwise stated 2/3 miles - Where there is a car share, allow for extra time to reach destinations and return.

We usually find optional refreshments to continue our social gatherings.

Legstretchers, allow for a morning out - 1st Friday once a month.  Please wear suitable footwear for wet and uneven surfaces and clothes appropriate to the Cumbria weather.  A drink and snack is useful as we don’t always end near a café or pub for refreshments. Everyone welcome, suggested donation £1 per walk towards expenses.   

We will substitute the walk leader if not available, back marker added on the day as needed.  We carry Public Liability Insurance.
