Description
Presented from the perspective of the current head gardener, Andrea Brunsendorf. The talk will focus on horticulture and the reimagination of the gardens currently underway at Lowther, as well as some personal highlights of Andrea’s first four years at Lowther Castle and Gardens.
Andrea is an internationally trained horticulturist who started gardening with her grandparents in Germany. She then achieved a traditional German apprenticeship, studied botanical horticulture at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in London and earned an MSc in Nature Conservation from UCL. Ten years of horticultural training and study were interlaced with internships in South Africa, Botswana, Israel, and the USA.
Once graduated, Andrea led the revitalising Inner Temple Gardens in Central London for 11 years , managed the 1000 acres of outdoor landscapes of Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania, then finally returned to the UK to be part of the ongoing development of Lowther Castle and Garden, a unique horticultural project of the North.
