Description
The event is organised by the International Sheep Dog Society with a Local Committee being formed to put on the Trial. This is one of four Trials that are being held in the Home Nations i.e. Wales, Ireland and Scotland, all trying to qualify for the International Trials which will be held near Wrexham in September.
The English Trials have been held in Cumbria many times before dating back to 1937 at various locations throughout the county.
The trials will be taking place over four days from the 14th to 17th August at Newton Rigg, Penrith by the kind permission of A.W. Jenkinson Farms who are not only supplying the venue but also the Sheep. The first day sees the Brace Competition and following on Friday with the singles where 50 competitors will be running each day and including Sunday where there will be a presentation to the prize winners as well.
Also, at the venue there will be a Craft Marquee where there are 15 Stalls including a demonstration of Stick Making and Wool spinning. There will be Trade Stands, Onsite Catering, ice cream, St John Ambulance. Along with the committee the Penrith Lions are manning the Car park and Gates. The event is open to all visitors who possibly have never seen the special partnership between one man and his dog showing the skill that is required to herd sheep. There will be A.A. signage directing Cars to the venue from the A66 and M6
The admission is £10 per car and £5 per car for members of the Society.
