2027 NAV4 Lakes Mountain 40

In many ways LM40 is a Spring version of the iconic Tour de Helvellyn. Under hyped, same no fuss, excellent mountain trails including the summits of Helvellyn and High Street, and the sting in the trail being Place Fell.

Description

It's a natural and beautifully logical route, offering a tough but achieveable day out.. .Total distance is just under 40 miles with several thousand feet of ascent . A long steady climb to Loadpot, then on to High Steet leads to very runnable trails down to Patterdale. A loop up to Helvellyn via Grisedale Tarn, and then a steep climb to Dollywagen Pike and on to Helvellyn. Descend via Swirral Edge, or Striding Edge, or Whiteside zigzags if conditions dictate.* (Winter conditions may prevent using 'The Edges')

Originally known as 'Dawn to Dusk' we have moved the start back one hour to 8.00am, but that still gives plenty of time to finish within daylight. We have no formal cut-off at Patterdale on the on the outward leg, but you can choose to short route yourself and go direct to Place Fell and still achieve a good ultra day out.
