Our free guided walks have a long history dating back to the earliest campaign to prevent the closure of the Settle-Carlisle train line.

Description

It is a pleasure to still offer free guided walks all these years later and we are proud of the contribution the Friends have made to safeguard England’s most scenic railway for everyone to enjoy.

Saturday 6th April - Armathwaite to Lazonby

Woods, water and sculpture are all included in this beautiful walk in the Eden valley. A great way to start off our new season!

Grade: Hiker Distance: 8 miles / 12.8km.

Saturday 11th May - Will we see Bluebells at Appleby?

A great day out along the line with a scenic ride to Appleby and a prospect to see the “elusive” bluebells at Flakebridge Woods!

Grade: Hiker Distance: 9 miles / 12.8km.

Saturday 22nd June - Langwathby to Lazonby via Long Meg

Enjoy the beautiful countryside of the Eden Valley and be awed by the impressive Long Meg and Her Daughters stone circle.

Grade: Hiker Distance: 9.5 miles / 15.3km.

 

Saturday 10th August - High Cup Nick from Appleby

Come along on this enthralling walk with jaw dropping scenery from the top of a glaciated U shaped valley. A definite must see!

Grade: Explorer! Distance: 13miles / 20.9km.

 

Saturday 7th September - Armathwaite to Carlisle

Follow the River Eden from Armathwaite to the historic city of Carlisle on this epic walk with much to see along the way.

Grade: Explorer! Distance: 14 miles / 22.5km.

Saturday 14th September - Kirkby Stephen Wander

An opportunity to discover some wonderful trails in the environs of Kirkby Stephen.

Grade: Hiker Distance: 10 miles / 16km.

Saturday 21st September - Langwathby Circular

Another chance to visit Long Meg and Her Daughters stone circle on this walk exploring the area around Langwathby

Grade: Hiker Distance: 11 miles / 17.7km.
