VE Day 80 commemorations in Eden

Plans are underway for celebrations across Cumbria for the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

Thursday May 8 marks 80 years since Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) which was the day the German forces surrendered to the Allied powers at the end of World War 2.

The Government has announced four days of nationwide celebrations across the country leading up to VE Day 80 starting with street parties, barbecues and community get-togethers up and down the country on Bank Holiday Monday May 5th.

• VE Day in Shap Monday 5th May
• VE Day in Appleby Thursday 8th May
• VE Day in Penrith Thursday 8th May
• VE Day in Garrigill, Sunday 11th May
