Transformative makeover for Penrith Leisure Centre’s gym

Gym-goers were joined by Eden District Council and Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL) representatives at the official opening of Penrith Leisure Centre's relaunched gym. Eden District Council Chair, Cllr Doug Banks, cut the ribbon and announced the venue as officially open. The gym has been revamped with the latest high-tech exercise equipment, as well as a transformative redesign of the décor and lighting with a fresh, and natural feel. It is hoped the improvements will encourage new starters to sign-up and to keep existing customers coming back to use the high-quality facilities, supporting the health and wellbeing of Eden's residents.

Chair of Eden District Council, Cllr Doug Banks, said, "The team has been working hard in the run up to the new authority to complete the project, and we're delighted that we've got here a high-quality gym that Eden can be proud of. "Looking at it here today at the official opening, it is very, very impressive and looks like money well spent. "The wellbeing of people in Eden is very important to the Council and maintaining exercise facilities is an important part of that. I hope the new Westmorland and Furness Council continues to invest in health and wellbeing facilities like this, as it's needed in our area." Becky Tilley, Interior Designer at IMD and Associates Ltd, said, "The brief was to produce a design that, whilst being modern and on trend, wouldn't date too quickly and that would appeal to the existing customers of the gym. With it being a community-focused gym, we didn't want anything too intimidating! "We went with natural timbers and greens, which are fresh and promote a sense of wellbeing. It's got a little bit of a Scandinavian feel overall. "It feels good seeing a design come together. It always feels nice to walk in to a project at the end and see all of the hard work you've put in come to life. It's good to hear everyone's positive comments about it too." The £280,000 investment into the gym improvements were agreed by Eden District Council earlier this year, as the previous equipment and facilities had come to the end of their expected life.
