New Exhibition at Penrith and Eden Museum: David Boyd: A Time to Share

David Boyd is an artist and illustrator, living and working in the Eden Valley, Cumbria.Winter approaches Penrith, late November 2020’ (image copyright of the artist).

In ‘normal circumstances’ he spends a lot of time outdoors, painting Cumbrian landscapes, townscapes and seascapes ‘enplein air’. However, when the first lockdown commenced, he spent time drawing and painting in the studio.

This exhibition 'A Time to Share' at Penrith and Eden Museum, captures David’s view of the lockdown experience over the past year as the Covid 19 pandemic saw him confined to his home, studio and garden for several months at a time.

At the start of lockdown David began to post a drawing a day on Facebook, most of which were a humorous response to the many activities suggested to help people through lockdown on social and other media platforms: Yoga, baking, enjoying the garden, tips for self-grooming etc.

Out of the many drawings David made, several paintings emerged which he said “came from a sense of staring through the everyday world and into an unreal and weird world of lockdown”.

This exhibition has been extended until the end of August 2021.

Open Monday to Saturday 10am – 4pm.
