Eden District Council to launch cashless parking payment system

Eden District Council is partnering with PayByPhone, a leader in mobile parking payments, to offerCar Park sign drivers cashless parking in most of its Council-owned car parks.

The service will be available in Eden from Thursday 1 April 2021, when drivers can pay for their parking safely and securely using their mobile devices.

Les Clark, Director of People and Place at Eden District Council said, “Following feedback from residents and visitors, we are now welcoming PayByPhone to our Council-owned Pay and Display car parks. This will provide a further option, alongside the contactless card readers, to assist residents and visitors that aren’t carrying cash.”

Residents and visitors to the district can pay for their parking either using the PayByPhone app, which is quick and easy to download.  Or by calling the PayByPhone automated payment service line. The telephone number is conveniently displayed on the pay and display machines in the car parks or on street signage.

PayByPhone’s Extend-From-Anywhere feature also allows users to extend their parking sessions remotely, in accordance with the car parks’ terms and conditions. This means drivers don’t have to worry about rushing back to their cars to extend their parking session, or to risk parking fines.

With the imminent return of non-essential retail, it is hoped that this more convenient way of parking will encourage residents and visitors back into the district’s high streets in support of local businesses.

From Thursday 1 April 2021, Pay-By-Phone parking will be available in the following Eden District Council car parks:

  • Bluebell Lane Car Park, Penrith
  • Sandgate Bus Station Car Park, Penrith
  • Princes Street Car Park, Penrith
  • Broad Close Car Park, Appleby
  • Mansion House (Front) Car Park, Penrith
  • Mansion House (Rear) Car Park, Penrith
  • Town Hall Car Park, Penrith
  • Drovers Lane Car Park
