    Fabulous Felt Garlands for Christmas

    Marieke is a very talented and largely self-taught felt artist who happened upon the history of felt and felting whilst examining the use of wool in sustainable  living and her environment workshops. She loves the fact that many fleeces now sadly discarded by farmers can be reworked through felting into something equally beautiful and useful that will last for many years, so creating a further postive impact locally.  With troots in both of Holland and Wales, Marieke now lives in the Eden Valley and runs workshops in textiles, the environment and sustainability, taking inspiration from her beautiful Morland village in the Eden Valley.  Join Marieke and make your own lovely felt christmas garland comprising aongst others felt hearts, Xmas puddings, christmas robins, trees and many other.

    Our Bread workshops are always very productive - Gillian will explain over first coffees the importance of the various ingredients, dried yeast vs fresh, liquids and proving times- and very soon you'll be making your first loaf of basic farmhouse bread - wholemeal or granary - you will quicky move on to rolls, foccaccia, rustic soda breads, challah, parmesan buns garlic rings and much more - make room in your freezer- you will see Breadmaking with new eyes.  There is something special about making bread by Hand - and for the time spent doing it - then it's worth doing it as well as you can - and the warm dough-y smells that ensue will create an unrivalled homeliness for your kitchen.   Gillian, who is becoming very well known throughout the county for her whole repertoire of bread making skills will share with us her secrets for a wonderful variety of her very achievable and special ‘hand made breads’.  £75 inc a lovely 2 course lunch etc.

    Dawdles Walk Hartley Circular

    One of our favourite walks to the pretty village of Hartley returning via Gramsceugh and Frank's Bridge.  Optional refreshments in Kirkby Stephen.  This programme uses mainly tarmac, please wear boots or shoes suitable for some uneven surfaces, mud and standing water where stated, subject to the day’s weather.  We will go whatever the weather - please wear suitable clothing and footwear for the day – we will adapt walks when necessary. DAWDLES Walk plus has an additional activity or interest during the walk.  All walks should take about an hour unless otherwise stated - DAWDLES Walk Little extra/Extra are taken at a quicker pace and are therefore longer.  Where there is a car share, allow for extra time to reach destinations and return.  We usually find optional refreshments after our walks.

    Christmas in Penrith 2017 Events will run from Saturday 25th November until Sunday 24th December 2017.  This year Christmas in Penrith is supported by Penrith Chamber of Trade and Commerce, Penrith Business Improvement District, Pride in Penrith Lottery, Discover Penrith and the local businesses of Penrith.  The Yuletide festivities will commence on Saturday 25th November with town lights being switch-on and the Penrith Christmas Bazaar taking Place.  The 2017 ‘Christmas in Penrith’ window dressing competition will be judged on Saturday 2nd December with the winner being announced on Saturday 9th to coincide with shoppers being given ‘jolly’ exclusive offers in the ‘Festive Fiver Fest’ part of totally local.  Other highlights to look out for include #ElfieSelfie, Santa’s Post Box at Rheged and Virgin Trains and lots more.
