    Classic Cars in the Park 2020

    Mark Woodward’s Spring Spectacular brings classic cars and vehicles to Lord and Lady Inglewood’s historic home in the North Lakes, within easy reach of the Scottish Borders.  Located 6 miles from Penrith in the north of the Cumbrian fells, less than three miles from the M6, Hutton-in-the-Forest is a fortified manor house which has been in the Inglewood family since 1605.  Experience the sights and sounds of classic cars roaring through the historic parkland, and explore the grounds and topiary gardens.  See a fleet of motorcycles, light commercials and classic cars from Austin Sevens to Land Rovers, displayed to their best in this glorious setting.  Chat to the experts at club stands, or sit in the sunshine and watch arena displays and commentary.  Grab a bargain from the range of trade stands and the famous auto jumble.  With plenty for everyone, show entry includes full access to the park, gardens and tea room, with house tours also available (small extra charge). Over 2000 David Austin roses, including shrub and rambling roses, will grace the borders – enclosed by briar hedges.  Dan Pearson’s design is based on the Sleeping Beauty myth and the poem written by the great Arts & Crafts designer, William Morris – called For the Briar-Rose.

    Ullswater Country Fair 2020

    Set in a stunning shadow of the Helvelyn range, Ullswater Country Fair is a traditional country show.  The show attracts both locals and visitors alike and there is something for everyone with traditional trade stands, falconry display, children's sports, dry stone walling demonstrations, gundog displays, fell racing, companion dog show, and much more.   Show Presidents for the 2019 show are Mr and Mrs Duncan Sanders, Tirril.   Refreshments are available on the field, including home made baking and sandwiches provided by and proceeds going to Patterdale School.  Admissions: Adults £5 / Children £2.50 / Under 10's Free.  Car parking is free but cars and contents are left at the owners risk.

    On the first Saturday of July every year The Patterdale Parish Parish Boundary Walk takes place.  The 2020 Boundary Walk will take place on Saturday the 4th July.  This annual event is a lot of fun for those taking part and raises much needed funds for St Patrick’s Church in Patterdale and the Patterdale Church of England Primary School.  If you’re interested in taking part then please contact us.   • Lord Birkett Memorial Trophy 2020

    Lord Birkett Memorial Trophy 2020

    The 2020 Lord Birkett Memorial Trophy will be held over the weekend of 4th and 5th of July at Ullswater Yacht Club.  The quest for the 'Holy Grail' of a Birkett win attracts keen sailors from national champions to novices from all over the country in a wide range of different boats all racing the full length of Ullswater and back on both days. The unique annual race was established in 1963 in memory of Lord Norman Birkett who successfully defended the right of public access to Ullswater which was threatened with reservoir status in the early 1960s. He spoke in the House of Lords in 1962 of the importance of retaining Ullswater's natural beauty for all, but sadly died shortly afterwards and the race has been held annually in honour of the 'Saviour of Ullswater'.

    Brough Agricultural Show 2020

    The Brough Agricultural Society is holding its 2020 Show on Thursday 20th August, so, put it in your diaries in the Show Field, Kaber, Kirkby Stephen.  The Show, a traditional one, has classes for Fell, Dales, Shetland, Piebald Coloured Ponies, Veteran Horses, Riding Ponies and Mounted Fancy Dress. Marathon and Obstacle Driving competitions are also held.  Sheep classes include Swaledale, Rough Fell, Blackfaced, Mule and Blue Faced Leicester, Texel, Herdwick, Beltex, Suffolk and Lleyn sheep together with a Young Handler competition which is a qualifier for the Cumbria Young Sheep Handler.  The Horticultural Classes are for Vegetables, Flowers, Floral Art, a Co-Operative Effort, Confectionery, Art Classes, Handicrafts and Photography.

    Lady Anne’s International Needlework Festival will take place from 4-17 July 2021. The festival is organised and hosted by Phillipa and Laura Turnbull of The Crewel Work Company. The decision to host the festival is due to the international following for our UK and Irish retreats and kits manufactured in Appleby.  First workshops in Appleby was held 20 years ago – now the festival is expanding on the few days we have previously present in the Eden Valley in the past, to offer a full two weeks of events and workshops following requests from our students.
