Penrith is a market town rich in history, with Penrith TIC housed alongside the Penrith and Eden Museum in the Old Robinson's School building dating back to 1670.

Our friendly and knowledgeable team are here to help you make the most of your visit and can provide you with all you need to know about where to stay, where to eat, plus things to do and how to get here.

Opening times:

Following government advice to limit the spread of COVID-19 and for the safety of our visitors and staff, the Penrith Tourist Information Centre will be closed temporarily until further notice.

Penrith TIC Staff will still be able to answer your emails, email (Monday to Friday) and a fully comprehensive information service will still be available online at

Main Services

Quality Assured Accommodation and Booking - We are able to make bookings for Quality Assured accommodation on your behalf (10% booking deposit based on full stay applies.) So if time is short, or you have a particular requirement why not let us do the hard work for you?  We also offer the National Book a Bed Ahead (BABA) service.

Comprehensive local, regional and national Information Service - We stock a range of guides, leaflets and information on Eden, including local town guides and leaflets, walking and cycling leaflets, local bus/train timetables, maps and event and attraction information. We also have information on other areas of Cumbria, The Lake District, Hadrian's Wall and other UK holiday destinations.

OS Explorer and Landranger maps - We sell a large range of maps and are stockists of OS Explorer and Landranger covering the whole of the UK.


Event Tickets:

We sell a wide variety of local event tickets including tickets for the Theatre by the Lake, Keswick, Penrith Singers concerts and Penrith Players productions.


Tickets for Penrith Players 2020 season will be on sale in the TIC:

In the current circumstances Penrith Players is closing for the foreseeable future. This means that Ivan Day's talk about Renaissance cookery and the next play, The Mandrake, will not take place. All events will be cancelled till the end of June unless circumstances change. Our own play, Mandrake has been rescheduled for next year. If people have bought tickets on line Ticketsource will refund them. If you have bought them through the Tourist Information Office you should contact them about refunds. At this stage it is hoped that the two bookings for the end of June (Queen tribute act and 10ccelo) will still take place but we will have to see how things develop.

Please note: Performances of The Mandrake (15 to 18 April 2020) and The Hound of the Baskervilles (3 to 6 June 2020) have been cancelled.

  • The Wannasee Festival will return to Hutton-in-the-Forest, Penrith in 2020 on the 28 to 30 August. More fantastic tribute bands than ever before, rides, entertainment and more, for campers and day visitors alike.

  • Wide range of guides and books - A wide selection of local guides and books are on sale in the TIC.  Including The Ullswater Way Official Guide book by Mark Richards is on sale at £4.99 with £1 going to the Lake District National Park to help keep the Ullswater Way in good repair. 

  • The TIC stocks a range of gifts and souvenirs including Mugs, Tea Towels, Lake District Calendars and Romneys Kendal Mint Cake - as taken to the Summit of Everest in 1953!  An exciting range of mugs, coasters, placemats and greetings cards featuring local landmarks including Penrith Castle, the Beacon and the Musgrave Monument are on sale.

  • National Theatre Tokens - Official agents for National Theatre Tokens - the perfect gift, whatever the occasion!

  • National Express Ticket Agency - We sell tickets to hundreds of exciting destinations served by National Express. National Express have a number coach services that stop at Penrith, allowing easy travel to other parts of the UK and into Europe. Travelling to London? Two coach services run to the capital every 24 hours.

  • Secure Cycle Storage Lockers - Available for cyclists to store their bikes whilst visiting the town.  Lockers cost £1.50 for up to 3 hours hire and £3 for up to 24 hours hire.  To hire please contact the TIC.  Alternative locker facilities are available in Penrith at Penrith Leisure Centre.

Other services

  • We supply Disability Rights UK National Key Scheme Keys (keys for accessible toilets). This national system offers independent access to disabled people to around 9,000 locked public toilets around the country. Disabled toilets are available in Bluebell Lane, Castle Park and Sandgate.

  • Access to Tourist Information Centre: Level access to information desk.
